Pune: Sepoy Chandu Babulal Chavan, who crossed over to Pakistan during the surgical strikes in September 2016 and was handed over to India four months later, has written to his commanding officer about his wish to quit the Army.
Currently Chavan is admitted at a military hospital here and sent the letter by post to his unit in Ahmednagar. After serving a sentence for leaving his camp in Jammu & Kashmir with weapon without prior permission, he was posted in Ahmednagar.
But three weeks ago, Chavan was sent to the hospital by his unit, on the grounds that he needs to be observed for some days for behavioural issues.
Chavan (24), who hails from Bohrivir village of Dhule district, has written that he is unable to discharge his duties after whatever happened to him.
However, officials from Southern Command said they are yet to get his letter. “We can offer comments after going through the letter once it is received,” an officer said.
