SPPU, college students to participate in Wari

Pune: As a part of University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Summer Internship, 200 students from each college affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be participating in Wari procession next week.

They will be working throughout the procession from July 3 to July 30.
As many as 100 to 150 colleges which have National Service Scheme (NSS) will be part of the initiative. 

Apart from these college students, like every year around 250 from students from Student Welfare Department and NSS group in SPPU will be participating in the Wari. And will conduct a cleanliness drive. They will be holding a street play to spread awareness about plastic and thermocol-free environment. 

The varsity authorities held a meeting with all participating colleges and distributed the share of work to every one. The colleges are now gearing up for the procession.

An official from the varsity, on condition of anonymity, said, “A representative will be selected from every college who will coordinate the entire procedure. The principals of colleges have been directed to take training sessions with their 200 participating students. We will be addressing the need of plastic ban and clean environment. The training will mainly focus on sensitising students on warkaris and their behaviour. The students will be told about how to talk to warkaris and how to explain them about steps to be taken for creating an environment-friendly society.”
