Pune, 5th November 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has announced a new recruitment drive to fill 111 vacant teaching positions, including Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors across various departments.
Applications are open online until December 7, 2025, according to a circular issued by Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakare. Hard copies and documents must be submitted by December 12, 2025, before 6 PM.
This is the university’s third attempt to complete the hiring process, after the previous advertisements published in December 2023 and September 2024 were delayed due to administrative issues. The prolonged pause had led to growing frustration among qualified teaching aspirants in Maharashtra.
University officials said the shortage of teachers has affected classroom teaching, research output, and administrative functioning. It has also hurt the university’s national ranking and student admissions. Several teachers’ groups had staged protests demanding that the recruitment process begin immediately.
Under the recruitment notification, 32 posts of Professor, 32 of Associate Professor, and 47 of Assistant Professor are open.
The process follows the Maharashtra government’s new guidelines for university recruitment announced on October 6, 2025. Under these norms, 25 marks will be allotted for academic eligibility and 75 marks for the interview phase. Experts say some provisions of the new policy may complicate the process, but the university has decided to proceed under the revised rules.
Both new applicants and those who applied under the 2023 and 2024 advertisements may apply again or update their previous submissions. Applications must be submitted through SPPU’s official online portal.
