 SRPF Gr 2 gets ISO certification for its services, work management

Pune: The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Group 2, based in Ramtekdi, Wanawadi, has become the first paramilitary unit to get ISO certification for its services and standardisation of functioning. 

The certificate was issued on December 18 after quality management system (QMS) of the 1,400 personnel strong unit was assessed to be compliant with 9001:2015 standards. The certificate states that the unit provided additional services to state and other police forces to maintain law and order, safeguard life and property within the country. Earlier, the unit was awarded under the smart police initiative. 

Sarang Avad, Commandant of SRPF Group 2, said, "Under the smart police initiative, we carried out improvement on campus cleanliness, use of technology, mobility of vehicles, community relations, police behaviour, emergency response system, welfare activities, record maintenance, etc. There are 28 CCTV cameras on the campus. An online software system for the SRPF Group 2 management has led to digitisation of records and daily input of data from all sections for improved performance."

The unit has also conducted biodiversity study of the campus spread over about 250 acres and has also adopted a village in Purandar taluka. The unit will construct water tanks and water pipelines in the village. 

HISTORY OF SRPF Gr 2
In the wake of communal riots and the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, then IGP of Maharashtra MN Kamte and then CM of Bombay Province decided to form a Reserve Police Force by the name Provincial Reserve Constabulary (PRC). PRC 1 & 2 were established at Purander (Pune) and Sambre (Belgaum) in 1948 and later on renamed SRPF Gr 1 and Gr 2 respectively. Gr 2 played a key role during the Goa Liberation Movement in 1961. After the liberation of Goa, SRPF Gr 2 was shifted to Ramtekdi in 1964. Gr 1 handed over 245.9 acre of land to Gr 2.
