Students write about agriculture under ‘Vichar Spardha’ initiative

Pune: In a unique initiative, Vichar Spardha, 17 students from different parts of the State wrote about ‘Agriculture: yesterday, today and tomorrow’, giving insights into history and asking questions to address recent issues.

The programme was organised by Pune International Center (PIC), in association with Gyan-key and Jnana Prabhodhini, which provided a platform for rural youth across the State to put forth their issues. The felicitation was organised on Sunday evening at Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA).

Students who were felicitated were Payal Bobade, Madhuri Navghale, Arti Kangale, Pragati Keskar, Rohit Chaure, Shrusti Ingale, Maheshwari Bhehere, Rekha Mahajan, Rushikesh Nagarale, Pratiksha Sawant, Chaitali Oak, Satyam Sawant, Shivani Nirukhe, Vivek Gaikwad, Vasundhara Pisal, Ashiwini Lohar, Anushree Bekwadkar. Suresh Pingale, Chairperson trustee at PIC, said that the ideas of these young kids were very inspiring.

“Over 50,000 students expressed their views on ‘Agriculture: yesterday, today and tomorrow’. Out of the 17 who won, 14 are the daughters of farmers. These children have rural backgrounds and also indulge in reading habits, which can be easily concluded from their beautiful ideas. These young kids have a deep understanding. They have mentioned new technologies and have independent thinking,” said Pingale.

Overall, around 54 per cent girls and 46 per cent boys participated in the essay competition. Vivek Gaikwad said that he comes from a rural background where farmers use their efforts to do good for everyone. Vasundhara Pisal gave the credit for her essay to her parents. Previously, agriculture was done with rainwater but the scenario is changing. Shivani Nirukhe discussed the history of agriculture.

The children highlighted the issues of water crisis and boost in crop production.
