Pune, 6th April 2026: Sunetra Pawar on Monday filed her nomination as the Mahayuti candidate for the by-election in Baramati Assembly constituency, which fell vacant after the demise of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Before filing her nomination, she addressed a public gathering where she paid tribute to Ajit Pawar. She became visibly emotional, stating that losing him just two months ago still feels unreal, and accepting his absence remains difficult.
Speaking about his deep bond with Baramati, she said the region was like a mother to him, and its people were everything to him. She added that his final breath resting in Baramati reflects that connection, which moved her deeply.
Sunetra Pawar said she has chosen to set aside her personal grief to step forward for the people of Baramati. She credited the strength and support of the people for giving her the courage to contest the election.
Calling this the first election after Ajit Pawar’s passing, she described it as an opportunity to honour his memory. She acknowledged that while no one can replace him, she is committed to continuing his vision and ensuring that his promises are fulfilled.
She assured that the public outreach initiatives started by him would continue and emphasized that every citizen of Baramati is like family to her. She also promised that no party worker would be left unsupported.
Mentioning Sharad Pawar, she said she carries forward both his vision and Ajit Pawar’s legacy. Thanking alliance partners, she stated that Baramati is not just a constituency but her identity, and the election belongs to the people.
She appealed to voters to extend even greater support than what they had given Ajit Pawar, expressing confidence in their continued trust.
