Pune: Out of more than 600 online credit courses, the Ministry of Human Resources and Development has decided to translate 40 most popular courses in eight different regional languages including Marathi. Students from rural areas and backgrounds will benefit from this initiative as it will help them understand the concepts in their regional language. The translation is done only for a better understanding of the subjects and students will need to give their credit course exam in English language only.
The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC) of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has undertaken the translation work of these courses in regional languages including Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Bengali and other languages.
Taking credit courses while pursuing a degree-education is becoming a necessity for students. However, these courses are in English language and most of the students from rural areas and backgrounds are facing difficulty in understanding these courses. If these students get the credit courses in their regional languages, they can also take benefit of credit points. SPPU has students from Pune, Nagar and Nashik districts and rural areas who benefit from these courses in a regional language like Marathi or Hindi. At present, there are over 600 credit courses available in the Swayam online platform. The Ministry of Human Resources and Development has taken an initiative for this and decided to translate 40 most popular credit courses in eight different regional languages.
Shreekant Thakur, Coordinator of EMMRC said, "40 credit courses of Swayam are being translated in eight regional languages including Marathi, Hindi and Tamil. These courses are from Computer Science, Food Technology, Management, Pharmacy, Forensics, Mass Communication and Media, Geology and Psychology subjects. Out of these 40 courses, Pune University has developed three courses - Business Ethics, Finance for Non-Finance and Personality Development."
Vivek Nabar, Senior Producer at EMMRC said, "We have translated almost 40 per cent of the credit courses in the Marathi language in the last one and half month."
