Pune, 30 July 2025: In a move to speed up passport processing, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has released Tatkaal appointments for Saturday, August 2, at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in Pune. The initiative is aimed at making urgent passport services more accessible, especially for those who require faster processing.
However, the Tatkaal scheme comes with stricter eligibility rules and documentation requirements. Many applicants are often unable to meet these conditions, which results in rejection of their applications. The MEA has urged applicants to carefully read the Tatkaal Advisory and the Tatkaal Undertaking before applying.
To ensure the authenticity of applicants, the Passport Authority may seek additional details or documents as per Section 5 of the Passports Act, 1967, and Rule 5 of the Passports Rules, 1980.
Applicants are expected to carry original and verifiable documents such as a QR code-enabled Birth Certificate that includes the Aadhaar number, Class 10 Passing Certificate, latest e-Aadhaar with a scannable QR code, and government-issued IDs like PAN Card, Voter ID, or Driving Licence with holograms. Those who are married must also carry a Marriage Certificate or Annexure J signed by both spouses, along with their passports or PAN cards.
For minor applicants, a filled and signed Annexure D (parental consent) and passports of both parents are mandatory.
The MEA has clarified that Aadhaar is not a valid proof of Date of Birth, and plastic “Smart ID Cards” printed by private vendors will not be accepted. Applicants must use the Digi-Locker and m-Aadhaar mobile apps to fetch digital documents like Birth Certificate, Aadhaar, and Class 10 Certificate. Only documents fetched through these apps, not just uploaded, will be considered valid if shared during the online application.
Before heading to the PSK, applicants are also required to scan QR codes on their e-documents using these apps to ensure the codes are working and the documents are verifiable.
Authorities have reminded applicants to thoroughly verify their eligibility and ensure that all documents are valid and original to avoid any delay or rejection on the appointment day.
