Tinder trickery: Man loses lakhs after his date goes horribly wrong

Pune: A woman has been booked by Chandan Nagar Police on charges of robbing of valuables belonging to a man whom she met via Tinder dating application.

According to police, the complainant who originally hails from Sangli and the suspect woman were introduced to each other through Tinder dating app. After the ‘match’, the duo started chatting. While the woman lured the man to meet her at Chandan Nagar. She told the man that she wants to booze on some drinks.

The woman and the complainant met at Royal Residency in Chandan Nagar. The suspect woman then offered a cold drink mixed with a substance that led complainant unconscious. Taking undue advantage of his condition, the woman stole a gold chain and mobile phone of the man worth Rs 1.10 lakh.

The FIR was registered on January 27 at the Chandan Nagar Police Station. Based on his complaint the unidentified woman has been booked under relevant sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc with intent to commit an offence) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police Sub-Inspector Vivek Sisal is probing the case further.

As millions of people get hooked to online dating applications, their spread has led to online romance scams! It has now become a modern form of scam that has spread in Pune from past few days. Recently, a man lost Rs 1,50,000 in a similar type of fraud.
