Total number of vehicles in Pune dist reaches 61.7L

PUNE: The total number of vehicles in Pune district has crossed the 61 lakh-mark and the number of vehicles in the city and adjacent areas including Pimpri-Chinchwad is around 39 lakh. As per the data provided by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) the number of new vehicles registered has decreased in 2018-19. In the previous year, the number of vehicles in the district increased by 4.5 lakh. The increase in number of registered bikes is only 3 lakh. 

Over the last few years, the population of Pune city and neighboring areas has increased due to people coming for education and jobs. Therefore, the number of vehicles has increased rapidly. The growth rate of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad is higher than rural areas. Pune RTO (MH 12), Pimpri Chinchwad (MH 14) and Baramati (MH 42) are the three districts in the Pune RTO divisions. In addition, Solapur and Akluj districts also come under the Pune RTO division. Saswad, Shirur, Bhor, Velha and Haveli come under Pune. Junnar, Maval, Lonavla and Khed fall under Pimpri-Chinchwad. Indapur and Daund fall under the Baramati area.

According to the RTO, the total number of vehicles in Pune reached 38.88 lakh by the end of March 2019. In Pimpri Chinchwad around 18.75 lakh and Baramati 4.06 lakh vehicles are registered. In the previous year Pune had 2.61 lakh, Pimpri Chinchwad 1.54 lakh and Baramati 31,500 new vehicles registered.
