Tourists throng Lonavla over long weekend

Lonavla: A long weekend holiday and heavy rains attracted a large number of tourists to Lonavla.

While Lonavla is always hailed as one of the favourite weekend destinations for those residing in Mumbai, Pune and other nearby areas, the monsoon season makes it even more popular with tourists.

The tourists’ favourite spots in and around Lonavla like Lion’s Point, Bhushi Dam, Rajmachi and Khandala were flooded with people all through the weekend. Pavna Dam too was visited by many people. While the tourists were very excited because of heavy rains, they were a little disappointed as Bhushi Dam is not yet completely filled with water, and many waterfalls too weren’t in full swing yet.

However, the large number of tourists caused a slight traffic congestion in Lonavla as well as the Pune-Mumbai highway.

Along with tourists looking to relax in Lonavla, trekkers too have started visiting forts and other points in the vicinity of Lonavla and Khandala. Trekkers and nature lovers were spotted at forts such as Lohgad, Visapur, Rajmachi in huge numbers over the weekend.
