Traffic diverted for heavy vehicles

Pune: The highway police deployed personnel on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway after an incident near Koregaon Bhima. Heavy vehicles coming towards Pune were being diverted via Chakan and Bhosari while vehicles going toward Ahmednagar were being diverted via Solapur Road till 10 pm on Monday.

SP (Highway) Amol Tambe said, “A notification has been issued by the district collector’s office in the evening about the diversion of heavy vehicles. Vehicles coming to Pune have been diverted to Shikrapur-Chakan-Bhosari and Pune. Similarly, vehicles going toward Ahmednagar have been diverted via Solapur road-Chauphula-Shirur. The highway police have already been deputed on the diversion points.”

According to the highway police, an inspector, five API/PSIs and 15 policemen have been deputed. The police personnel would remain deployed till the further instruction. “We are in contact with the Pune rural police. The situation is being monitored by them. If they seek an extension of timing for the diversion, we will support them,” Tambe told Sakal Times.

Head Constable injured
 A head constable, Borade, was injured on Monday afternoon during the stone pelting near Koregaon Bhima. “Borade was deployed near Koregaon Bhima. He was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital. He is posted at Bhuinj in Satara district and was on duty near Koregaon Bhima. He is being treated in the hospital,” Tambe told Sakal Times.
