Trains passing through Haryana & Panjab canceled

Pune: Train traffic going towards Punjab and Haryana from Pune have been majorly affected due to the unrest in these two states caused due to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim being convicted in a rape case.

Pune division administration on Saturday announced the cancellation of Pune-Jammu Tavi Jhelum Express.

This train passes through these two states. Earlier on Saturday, Yashwantpur-Chandigarh Sampark Kranti Express too was cancelled due to the same reason.

Officials said that the two trains are likely to be cancelled on Sunday and Monday too (when the punishment statement will be announced by the Panchkula Court) considering the volatile situation in the State.

The announcement, they said, will only be made after getting a go ahead from the railway board.

As per reports, as many as 340 trains from all over the country passing through Punjab and Haryana have been cancelled or shortly terminated.

A railway official said that approximately 650 trains might get affected till August 27 - out of which 600 stand cancelled and remaining 50 will be short terminated.

“Rail users who had booked tickets for the trains would be given refunds. The decision regarding cancellation of trains has been taken considering the security threat to passengers and railway property,” said Manoj Kumar Jhawar, Public Relation Officer of Pune rail division.
