Two die in accident on Mumbai-Pune expressway

Pune: A bizarre accident of four heavy vehicles (goods containers) ramming over each other took place on Mumbai Pune Expressway on Monday killing two people and leaving four seriously injured.

The accident took place on Mumbai-Pune expressway from the distance of 36 kilometres of Khopoli jurisdiction. The accident case has been lodged at Khopoli police station.

According to police, "A major accident took place on Mumbai Pune expressway on Mumbai lane. The traffic heading towards Mumbai has been stopped.  The accident has taken place on Monday around 7 am after a goods container carrying meat heading to Mumbai rammed three trucks. The driver lost control on his wheel and dashed the safety wall and it turtled."

“The other three tracks and container collided each other and one of the containers got skit. Due to which the other vehicles on E-way could not head ahead. The traffic was jam for two kilometres. The traffic jam will be cleared soon,” police added.

"Our highway police along with the expressway force and Khopoli based local resident group of Apghat Grashta Madatitsati group rushed to the spot to help clear the traffic.  They are coordinating and helping us. We have managed to rescue six people from vehicles who had got stuck of which two died at the spot while four are rushed to the hospital  and undergoing treatment. "
