Pune: Two persons were booked for offering a bribe of Rs 60,000 to the talathi (village accountant) of Burkegaon village of Haveli taluka here. The incident occurred on Tuesday at the Talathi office.
Both accused were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after which a case was registered at Lonikand police station
The accused, Dhondiba Waghmode (26) and Tukaram Pawale (52), both residents of Haveli were booked on the complaint made by the talathi to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
According to the ACB, a written report was sent by the Tehsildar of Haveli to the complainant in connection with the illegal sand mining done by Waghmode at his agricultural land.
To avoid the action, Waghmode offered a bribe to the talathi. However the latter reported the matter to the ACB, who laid a trap.
On Tuesday afternoon, on behalf of Waghmode, Tukaram Pawale came to the office of the complainant to hand him Rs 60,000 and was caught red-handed. During interrogation he admitted that he came to offer the bribe on the orders of Waghmode.
Both accused were booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
