Pimpri/Pune, 30 June 2025: Incomplete digging, narrowed roads, and knee-deep water accumulation due to rainfall have created major hurdles for commuters and pedestrians in Pimpri-Chinchwad. These issues are part of the ongoing Urban Street project, which is progressing at a sluggish pace. The work on the stretch from Pimpri to Nigdi has remained stalled for over six months, leading to frustration among local residents and vehicle users.
Under the Urban Street initiative, footpaths in areas like Ravet, Akurdi, Nigdi-Pradhikaran, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Chinchwad, and Wakad are being developed. The project on the Pune-Mumbai Highway is divided into two phases, from Dapodi to Pimpri and Pimpri to Dapodi.
The stretch from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk in Pimpri to Nigdi is currently under construction. While some work near Ambedkar Chowk is completed, the stretch from Morwadi Chowk to Empire Estate in Chinchwad remains half-done.
Adding to the chaos, Metro construction work is underway in front of the Jewel of Pimpri building, with large pits left open for days. This has significantly narrowed the road. Moreover, roadside parking is pushing vehicles towards the center of the road, worsening the traffic situation. With limited parking space, many drivers are forced to park in no-parking zones, leading to traffic jams especially during morning and evening hours.
The delay in completion has raised questions about accountability and whether any action will be taken against the contractors.

"The Pimpri to Nigdi road work has been pending for over six months. Driving here is extremely difficult. Waterlogging damages vehicles, and two-wheeler riders struggle to pass. Pedestrians are the worst hit. The municipal corporation must finish this work immediately."
– Manoj Shete, Resident
"Pipeline work is currently ongoing in the BRT lane near the Empire Estate area. Once this is completed, the roadwork will also be completed."
– Bapusaheb Gaikwad, Assistant City Engineer, PCMC
