PUNE: As the issue of women’s safety is getting serious day by day, Vanrai, a city-based NGO and International School for Management Excellence (ISME), Pune, had organised a one-day workshop on safety and security of women on Tuesday (December 10) at Vanrai office in Parvati.

The workshop focused on spreading awareness among women and girls about how to protect themselves. They were given a demonstration on how to protect themselves while travelling on public transport buses.

IMSE Pune Chairman Sachin Khaire said, “Safety and security of women employees and college girls is of prime importance. A few basic steps have been taught during the workshop like self-defence, how to use pepper spray and karate training was also demonstrated during the workshop.”

During the workshop, karate trainer Yasmin Qureshi demonstrated self-protection skills.

Qureshi said, “For self-protection, women need to learn karate and the technical aspects of self-defence.”

Vanrai President Ravindra Dharia said, “Women’s safety is an important issue. There is a need for awareness in several other parts of the State as well. We have given training to 15 women so far and more such workshops will be organised in the future.”
