VU to launch ‘Company on Campus’ programme

PUNE: Vishwakarma University (VU), in association with Tata Technologies (Competency Centre) and IBM (Centre of Excellence), will soon launch a ‘Company on Campus’ programme in Pune.

It will focus on making students industry ready by imparting them the right knowledge and training, by bringing work culture to their classrooms.

Vishwakarma University, Tata Technologies Ltd and IBM are jointly committed to bringing ‘company to campus’, whereby the value addition to students will be immense. With content refinement in the curriculum, students will ‘learn by doing’, as opposed to ‘learning by rote’. With mock centres that simulate work place/factory, students will be able to move to their work place seamlessly.

“There is a strong demand for skilled technology and trained management professionals. The IBM Innovation Center for Education initiative will equip the students at the University to adapt to the dynamics of the industry and drive technology and business innovation. The industry relevant technology courses will provide deep theoretical knowledge to the students, coupled with broad-based industry alignment, interaction and discover talent as well as excellence in their professional practice. Through this collaboration, we can positively impact the outcomes of the university students,” said Amy Purdy, Director of IBM Technical Training, IBM-USA.

Apart from investing in industrial mock centres and infrastructure, the company will also be offering content support, with instructors being chosen from a pool of over 8,500 engineers at Tata Technologies. The company is hopeful of creating future-ready engineers by offering them a chance to learn and work at the same time in factory-like simulation centres.

IBM is set to provide their expertise with collaborative work on curriculum design and courseware in the areas of Business Analytics and Cloud Computing for BTech Computer Science Engineering students of Vishwakarma University. This will result in students acquiring the much in demand technical skills, helping them build a robust career in the industry.
