Wakad faces power failures regularly

PUNE: Power failures have become regular incidents in Wakad area of the city. Although the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) put the blame on the corporation contractor for digging up the road and disturbing the utility lines, the residents are facing the problem day in and day out.

Apparently, a cremation too took place in the blaze of the headlights of a vehicle due to a power failure on Thursday. Residents were frequently complaining that they face power cuts for nearly seven to eight hours every alternate day.

Chairman of Palash society in Wakad Kiran Madgamma, said, “From May 5, the digging work has started in our area. With the digging of the roads in the area, the utility wires get snapped resulting in power failure.”

Sagar Pawar, another resident of Wakad, stated, “We have complained to the MSEDCL officials, but they ignore the complaints.”

Corporator of Ward number 25, Wakad, Rahul Kalate, said, “The issue is persistent in all the societies of Wakad. I have been talking with MSEDCL, but they just say that the electricity will be restored in some time but it is restored after hours.”

The Chief Engineer of MSEDCL Pune Zone, Sachin Talewar, said, “The road contractors are digging up the roads and disturbing the utility wires. They are even not informing us about it. On Thursday, the road contractor had disconnected all the electricity wires, therefore, there was electricity outage at the crematorium. We had restored all connections and there is no problem now.”
