Wanawadi residents furious over traffic congestion

Pune: Improper traffic management, encroachment and electrical poles are obstructing the traffic, leading to huge traffic congestion during peak hours at Jambhulkar Chowk in Wanawadi. The shop owners and residents of the area are furious over this issue.

Rufuz Moses, a shop owner, said, “The traffic signal has not been functioning for many years and the only one traffic policeman is unable to control the flow of traffic coming from Hadapsar.”

He said that what adds to the chaos are three electrical poles by the side of the road, which need to be removed for road widening - a process that is still on paper.

Nitish Jambhulkar, a resident of Jambhulkar Chowk, said, “Since the past four to five years, the traffic has increased rapidly. Pedestrians are also affected, as crossing the road is dangerous.”

Use alternative road
According to Mahesh Punde, Corporator of  Wanawadi, commuters should use Bhairoba Nala Road to travel from Hadapsar to Kharadi or vice-versa, so that the traffic congestion here goes down.

Punde added, “Two months back, PMC floated tender of RS 25 lakh, where the three electrical poles will be removed and the electric wires will be installed underground. Along with it, the traffic signal poles will also be removed, so that road can be widened to eight feet. This will be done in the next two months.”

A senior engineer from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) RN Kanth, said, “We have written to PMC and they will soon start the work of installing the wires underground.”
