Water enters societies in Sangvi area

PUNE: After water was discharged from the Pavana and Mulshi dams, residents living near the banks of the Mula and Pavana had to look out for safer places as the water entered their houses. 

Around 2.30 to 3 am the river water started entering the residential areas. However, the civic body failed to take quick steps to evacuate the people, alleged the residents of Madhuban 

Society, Mula Nagar slum area, Pavana Nagar Ghat Chawl, Priyadarshani Nagar, Shitole Nagar, Shivanjali Corner, Mamta Nagar, Sangam Nagar and Datta Ashram, from Old Sangvi. 

The civic body started their rescue operation 5 am onwards. 

The residents from the Mula Nagar slum area were shifted to Ahilyabai Holkar School, Sangvi. 

Residents of Pavana Nagar Ghat Jam Chawl got help from the civic body at 8 am.  At many places the sewage water got mixed with the river water.
