PUNE: The southwest monsoon has set in some parts of Maharashtra. In Pune district, rainfall continued over last two days. Rains in catchment areas of four dams which supply Pune city with water led to a slight increase in water level.
The catchment areas of the dams recorded more than 50 mm rainfall in 24 hours. The collective water storage in the dams that supply water to the city stands at 2.35 Thousand Million Litres per cubic feet (TMC). The city gets water from Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar dams.
According to Khadakwasla Irrigation Division, Temghar dam catchment area has recorded maximum 72 mm rainfall on Friday till 5.30 pm and it was followed by Panshet at 72 mm, Varasgaon at 66 mm and Khadakwasla at 28 mm.
On Thursday, rainfall recorded maximum 102 mm in Temghar, Panshet and Varasgaon recorded 48 mm and 45 mm rainfall respectively.
In Khadakwasla area, it was only 14 mm rainfall.
Due to insufficient water in the four dams, the city is facing a shortage of water. After continuous rainfall, there is slight increase in water level.
