2nd January 2026: Pune, known as a progressive city and often called the cultural capital of the country, has reported a disturbing incident that has shocked many. A 33-year-old widowed woman was allegedly assaulted by her own family members for wearing jeans.

According to the police, the woman, who works as a waste picker, lives with her four children in the Taljai area. Her husband passed away three years ago. On December 30, while she was standing outside her house wearing jeans, her mother-in-law arrived and objected to her clothing.

An argument followed, after which the mother-in-law allegedly pulled her hair and began beating her.

Soon after, the woman’s brother-in-law and daughter reached the spot. Instead of intervening, they also allegedly assaulted her. The brother-in-law reportedly twisted her left arm, while her mobile phone was forcibly taken away. The attack resulted in a fracture near her wrist.

The injured woman was taken to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors confirmed that her wrist bone was fractured. Based on her complaint, Sahakarnagar Police have registered a case against the mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and daughter under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
