PUNE: Gauri Ravindra Shinde (30), a Magarpatta City resident got a job in the Audit department of the State Government two months ago on compassionate ground as her father expired in February 2018. She donated her first salary of Rs 20,000 to the Sakal India Foundation.
Shinde, who has done her BSc in Microbiology, aspired to become a doctor but could not realise her dream due to her weak financial condition. She said, “I wanted to become a doctor but was unable to do so due to the financial condition of my family. I was working in an health care MNC for past eight years. Last year, my father expired due to cancer. My brother was already in the IT sector and I applied for this job.”
“Since this was my father’s job, I decided to donate my first salary. My father wanted to do something for the society. I wanted to donate the amount to a cancer patient as I could not save my father. I decided to donate it to the Sakal India Foundation.”
The Sakal India Foundation was founded in 1959 as an educational organisation, which is dedicated to providing enriched learning experiences. The foundation provides scholarships to Indian students proposing to pursue post-graduate studies abroad or research studies leading to PhD.
“The Sakal India Foundation is doing very good work in education. I was unable to complete my education. If someone can receive education with my contribution, it will give me immense satisfaction,” added Shinde.
She still aspires to work in the health care sector some day. “I believe that while we are earning, we should help the society as well. In the future also, I will donate money for the welfare of cancer patients and for the needy in the education sector,” said Shinde.
