Pune: Fake messages and calls have been causing various crime in the country. One of the recent calls is of Kaun Banega Crorepati offering a lottery ticket of Rs 25 lakh. A fake call about the popular game show is doing the rounds. Kaun Banega Crorepati has become a household name and continues to resonate with millions of people.
As Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), Season 12, started airing, the cyber cell of Pune police started receiving complaints of people being duped on the pretext of endearing cash prize from the show lottery.
A couple from Hingne Khurd area in the city fell for ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)’ bait worth Rs 25 lakh offered by fraudsters and ended up losing Rs 23.41 lakh. According to the complaint, the incident took place between August and November.
The victims received a call from an unidentified number where the fraudster told them that they had earned a lottery of Rs 25 lakh of Kaun Banega Crorepati and texted them on WhatsApp details related to their mobile number and fake certificate of win and total amount.
The caller asked the couple to transfer money in a bank account for the early release of lottery sum. The couple deposited Rs 23.41 lakh amount online but never received any lottery ticket. Later, they approached the police. The Sinhgad Road police is investigating the matter.
AVOID SUCH FAKE CALLS
· Do not reply to unidentified numbers.
· Do not fall prey to text message quoting winning of the lottery, gold, mobile phones.
· Do not click on the random URL.
· Never share your ATM pin or other bank details via phone call to any salespersons.
