PUNE: Film personalities Mukesh Rishi, Sonalee Kulkarni and Nagesh Bhosale, on Tuesday, inaugurated an exhibition organised by Yerwada Central Jail in the city. The exhibition showcases the craftsmanship of the prisoners.
Talking about the exhibition, Jail Superintendent Chandramani Indurkar said, “We organise this exhibition every year on the occasion of Diwali. The proceedings from this exhibition will go to the Prisoners Welfare Fund. We get a really good response every year and hope for the same this year too. There are various Diwali related items which are on sale like diyas, small and big lanterns and lamps along with the usual stuff like furniture, clothes, footwear etc which is on sale all year long.”
“The prisoners are skilled workmen but due to some decisions made in the heat-of-the-moment, they are in the prison. We at Yerwada Central Jail not only work on their welfare but also on their craft. We encourage them to stand on their feet despite being in the prison and help them make their life better reformed,” added Indurkar.
Chief guest Nagesh Bhosale said, “I feel extremely proud of the prisoners. They have created some amazing stuff and there you can see their creative side. I thank the authorities for giving me a chance to come here and inaugurate the exhibition. I feel extremely grateful and honoured to have got this chance.”
The exhibition is being held at Yerwada Central Jail Industries showroom from October 30 to November 6 from 9 am to 9 pm.
