Pune: This Sunday, switch off your vehicle engine and ditch the vehicle for one day as the Bavdhan Citizens Forum from Pune in a bid to promote environment conservation will observe ‘No Vehicle Day’ on December 6.

The Bavdhan based citizens group has initiated a novel idea of taking a pledge of switching off the engine of the vehicle on the first Sunday of every month. This means that the citizens registered with the group won’t use any vehicles on that day. Nearly 30 people had pledged participation on November 1, when the first ‘No Vehicle Sunday’ was observed here.

“On every first Sunday of the month, we are appealing people to avoid the use of vehicles. We have created a group named Bavdhan Citizens Forum on Facebook. We received a good response on last Sunday. We hope will be getting the same on this Sunday”, said Dushyant Bhatia, a resident.

Another resident Deepa Prabhu who is also the coordinator of the forum stated that people even for shopping vegetables use vehicles and do not walk for even 10 metres. We should rest the vehicles for at least one day of every month as it will certainly help to curtail the problems of pollution.

If one wants to participate in the event or know more details, the group has asked people to connect with them via their Facebook Page. The group on this Sunday has scheduled to carry a cycle rally from Shinde Petrol Pump in Bavdhan to Ramnagar. The cycle rally will begin at 8 am on Sunday.
