‘Climate change is causing unrest in world’

Knowledge Symposium on Cultural Leadership and Global Peace held in city.

Pune: Music, Art and Cinema cannot stop wars but it can prevent other wars, said Paolo Petrocelli, a cultural and music diplomacy officer.

He was speaking at a Knowledge Symposium on ‘Cultural Leadership and Global Peace’ held by the Servants of India Society at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE)’s Kale Hall on Wednesday.

The panel comprised Cruz Mariela, Excellency Ambassador to India from Costa Rica, Eduard Muller, founder and President of the University for International Cooperation and SARPV Chaturvedi, founder of Sri Ramanuja Mission Trust. The talk was headed by Rajas Parchure, Director of GIPE.

Talking about cultural leadership, Petrocelli said first of all, it is necessary to be a leader of yourself. “You have to be a leader of yourself, control your mind, body and language. Music and art help you regain the sanity within yourself. Hence, cultural leadership does not mean that you rule the world with your culture but influence them through it. We can re-establish peace and harmony through music, art and cinema which is a part of culture,” said Petrocelli.

Muller said that unless the unrest in changing ecosystem does not settle it is difficult to find peace in the world. “Scarce resource is not a good recipe for peace. There will be over 108 million people who can die of the food crisis in future. This is due to the ecological recession that will have greater consequences than an economical recession,” said Muller.

“Moreover, climate change is a primary reason for such unrest in the world. Humans are directly or indirectly contributing to the global warming. Our ego to possess the best, we want the best car, best luxury at the cost of biodiversity. It is time that we transform from ego-economy to eco-economy,” added Muller.

Praise for yoga
Chaturvedi and Mariels agreed that yoga is one of the great forms that can bring strength and stability in oneself which is essential to be a good leader. “The greatness of yoga is that it gives instinctive energy, enthusiasm, beauty and glamour that increases one’s memory and efficiency,” said Chaturvedi.
