AC Milan ended 2025 on a high note with a 3-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the San Siro on Sunday, briefly moving to the top of Serie A before local rivals Inter Milan reclaimed the spot later in the evening. Massimiliano Allegri’s side now sits in second place with 36 points, trailing Inter by a single point and holding a narrow one-point lead over defending champions Napoli.

Christopher Nkunku headlined the performance, scoring his first two Serie A goals since his 37 million summer move from Chelsea. The French forward ended a league goal drought stretching back to February, first converting a penalty he earned himself in the 47th minute. Just minutes later, Nkunku was alert to tap home a rebound after a Luka Modric strike hit the post.

"He’s a sensitive lad, one who is keen to do well here," Allegri told reporters. "I think he can continue to improve just like we have to. We’re going to need everyone because we have a really busy schedule over the next month."

The breakthrough came just before halftime through Christian Pulisic, who continued his prolific form by volleying home an Adrien Rabiot flick-on from a Modric corner. The American international has now been involved in 50 Serie A goals since joining Milan in 2023, a tally surpassed only by Inter’s Lautaro Martínez (53) during the same period.

Despite missing a month of the campaign due to injury, Pulisic has already recorded 10 goals and two assists in 15 appearances across all competitions this season.

Nkunku’s emergence as a goalscorer comes at a critical time for the Rossoneri, as Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez remains sidelined until February. The club is also reportedly set to finalize the signing of Niclas Fullkrug from West Ham next month to bolster their attacking options.

Allegri remains focused on the long-term math for the league title, stating to DAZN: "At the moment the Scudetto target will be between 82 and 84 points. It could rise to 86 if a team goes on a strong run."
