Bhoknal, Swaran finish 1-2; Army dominates 2000m races
Pune: Olympians Dattu Bhoknal and Swaran Singh gave Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) the bragging rights as they finished in 1-2 positions in the Men’s 2000m Single Scull event, in the National Rowing Championship at the Army Rowing Node here on Friday.
Bhoknal, who finished 13th in Rio Olympics was quick to assert his space in Men’s single scull, an event that could become India’s rallying factor in the coming Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 and also at the next Olympics.
Bhoknal won the gold medal by some distance, beating his army teammate to the second place, while Madhya Pradesh’s Saleem Khan came in third to take the bronze medal.
The SSCB, which returned to national championship after ending their two-year boycott, topped all the events in the 2000 metre races, preliminaries of which began on Wednesday and finals were held on Friday.
Dushyant Chauhan of SSCB won the Light Weight Single Scull gold medal beating his Army counterpart Rohit Kumar to the second place, while Nayab Rasool of Karnataka settled for the bronze medal.
