19th August, 2025: Putting all the speculations to an end, BCCI have announced the 15 member squad list on Tuesday, 19th August, marking the return of Jasprit Bumrah, to the white ball, since the 2024 T20 World Cup Final at Barbados. Post the tour of England, there were concerns around his fitness, leading to coversations around his future in the national cricketing arena. The announcement puts it to rest for the foreseeable future, while adding a huge boost to the bowling lineup.

While, Bumrah's inclusion brings in a certain relief, the same couldn't be said for Shreyas Iyer, who's been left out of the squad, alongside names such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Washington Sundar. "It's very unfortunate for Yashasvi Jaiswal, with Abhishek doing well, he can bowl as well - one of the two was going to miss out - same with Shreyas, not his fault. With respect to Shreyas Iyer, who can he replace? It's no fault of his, but neither ours," said Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of BCCI.

On a similar vein to the situation of Bumrah, Subhman Gill marks his return to the T20 squad as the Vice-Captain, after an impressive stint in the tour of England, as the young skipper. "He has exceeded all our expectations," added Agarkar, while hinting at what could be a positive competition among him, and Sanju Samson, for the opening spot alongside Abhishek Sharma. "Shubman Gill and Sanju Samson - two very good opening options to have alongside Abhishek Sharma. They'll take a call in Dubai".

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included as a part of the reserved players, alongside Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel. "Yashasvi missed out. It is hard on him, but it was between him and Abhishek Sharma, who has done well for India in the T20Is" said Agarkar

With the tournament being held in United Arab Emirates, from September 9 to 28, India will start its campaign against the host, UAE, on 10th of September at 7.30PM IST.
