IPL 2021: MS Dhoni-led CSK take on bottom-placed SRH

Table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on bottom-placed SunRisers Hyderabad in 23rd game of IPL 2021 on Wednesday

New Delhi: The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is ready to host the 23rd game of IPL between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and SunRisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. Two teams with contrasting lucks in the tournament so far will start their Delhi leg. After a loss in their opening match, CSK have been on a roll, winning four straight games, while SRH have managed just one victory in five matches.

CSK are yet to lose a match. They have won four out of five matches. After losing their first game of the season to Delhi Capitals, the Chennai franchise has not lost a single game. SRH, however, have won only one out of the five matches they have played.

CSK’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is a vital force behind CSK's winning streak so far. His blazing assault on RCB’s Harshal Patel in the final over is the best moment of the IPL so far. Apart from his brilliant batting, he is perfect with left-arm spin and some amazing catches and run-outs. Coming to the batting, CSK’s opening pair Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad – have given a decent start while Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu are in the line to score big.

On Wednesday, CSK batsmen will be aware of the SRH’s spin wizard Rashid Khan but the team led by MS Dhoni must have prepared enough strategy to tackle the spin. The only concern for CSK in the batting is their fragile middle- order and over-dependency on the top order. If the likes of Rayudu, Raina, MS Dhoni return to their original form, it can lead a big worry for SRH. About the bowling, Deepak Chahar is the one leading Yellow Army from the front. Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran are also in decent form. It will be interesting to see will Moeen Ali play the game on Wednesday. Nevertheless, CSK's style this season hasn't been dependent on one player, as different players have stepped up for them this season. That is something they will look to do against Hyderabad as well.

Coming to the Hyderabad side, SRH rely heavily on their foreign recruits, led by captain David Warner, opener Jonny Bairstow, Kiwi captain Kane Williamson and Rashid Khan. SRH's last win came against Punjab Kings in game 21 of IPL.

The big worry for SRH has been their middle-order. While bringing in Kane Williamson to the squad has brought in some steadiness as the Kiwi great helped set the line-up at No. 3. However, SRH still haven't found a solution for No 4 and 6. Virat Singh is likely to be dropped in a game against CSK. Priyam Garg or Manish Pandey may make a comeback. Also, Sandeep Sharma who has performed well against Chennai till date could return to the team.

CSK: Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C, WK), Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Dwayne Bravo, Deepak Chahar, Imran Tahir

SRH: David Warner (C), Jonny Bairstow (WK), Kane Williamson, Virat Singh/Abdul Samad, Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav, Rashid Khan, Jagadeesha Suchith, Siddarth Kaul, Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma
