Juventus snatched a dramatic 4-3 victory over arch-rivals Inter Milan on Saturday, with substitute Vasilije Adzic scoring a last-minute winner. The back-and-forth contest, dubbed the Derby d’Italia, saw Juventus maintain their perfect start to the season and move to second in the Serie A standings. Inter, meanwhile, suffered their second consecutive defeat and remains on just three points.
The match had a unique subplot with the Thuram brothers, Marcus and Kephren, both scoring for their respective sides. Marcus, playing for Inter, and Kephren, playing for Juventus, found the back of the net in a six-minute span in front of their father, legendary defender Lilian Thuram. Kephren, the victorious brother, commented on the moment, saying, “After the goal, Marcus said, ‘well done’, with the eyes of a brother, but he wasn’t laughing. He teases me about headers, and so does dad, so today I’m happy.”
The scoring started in the 14th minute with a goal from Juventus' Lloyd Kelly, but Inter's Hakan Calhanoglu leveled the score on the half-hour mark. Juventus took the lead again before halftime through Kenan Yildiz. Inter came out strong in the second half, with Calhanoglu scoring his second goal to make it 2-2 before Marcus Thuram powered a header past the keeper to put Inter ahead for the first time in the match.
The match appeared to be heading for a win for Inter, but Juventus found an equalizer with eight minutes remaining when Kephren Thuram headed in a free kick. With the score tied at 3-3, the match was not over yet. In the first minute of added time, substitute Adzic, 19, took a pass from Jonathan David and unleashed a long-range shot that sealed the win for Juventus in a stunning finish.
With the victory, Juventus moves to nine points, level with leader Napoli. The result is a major blow for Inter Milan, who were looking to bounce back from a loss last time out. The dramatic win maintains Juventus’ perfect start to the season and puts them in a strong position to challenge for the title.
