Igor Tudor’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur finally has its first point, and it arrived in the most dramatic fashion possible. With number of injury crisis for the visitors and a recurring late-game collapse for the hosts, Richarlison emerged as the antagonist of the piece for the Anfield faithful, scuffing home a 90th-minute equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw.

For Liverpool, the defending Premier League champions, it was a familiar, feeling. For Spurs, it was a sliver of hope amid the gloom, ending a run of six successive defeats in all competitions and keeping them, for now, just outside the relegation zone.

Two errors and one wonderkid

The match began with a sense of inevitability. In the 18th minute, Dominik Szoboszlai whipped a free-kick toward the center of the goal. Guglielmo Vicario, restored to the lineup after Antonin Kinsky’s midweek disaster in Madrid, was caught with his feet planted. Despite getting a strong hand to the ball, he could only push it into the corner.

However, the game’s true spark came from 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha. Making his first Premier League start, the winger justified Arne Slot’s faith with a historic performance, terrorizing the Spurs' defense and completing seven dribbles; a feat not seen by a teenager in the league for years.

Frustration at Anfield

The atmosphere at the final whistle was toxic, with the home crowd booing the champions off the pitch. Liverpool have now conceded eight goals in the 90th minute or later this season; a new and unwanted club record.

I feel flat. We have to wake up because if we carry on like this, we should be happy with the Conference League. I don't know why this is happening... in the last minute, again, I don't know how many times this season already.

Dominik Szoboszlai

Reds boss Arne Slot was equally blunt:

I think we’ve not been clinical enough throughout the whole season. If you are not able to score the second or the third goal, then you make sure you don’t concede. It is an enormous frustration.

Tudor’s bench

Igor Tudor entered the match with 13 players unavailable through injury or suspension. His bench was so thin he was forced to name two goalkeepers and three 19-year-olds who had never played a senior minute. Yet, the tactical shift to a 4-4-2 provided a "coherent unit" that refused to capitulate.

While Richarlison missed five clear-cut chances throughout the afternoon, his persistence paid off in the final minute of normal time. After Randal Kolo Muani outmuscled Virgil van Dijk, he found the Brazilian, whose scuffed finish wrongfooted Alisson to silence the Kop.

Crisis and the comeback

  • Equalizer: Richarlison’s equalizer was his only successful attempt out of six significant chances.

  • Prodigy: Rio Ngumoha became the first player to attempt and complete 7+ dribbles in a single PL game since 2023.

  • Record: Liverpool have now dropped points in over a quarter of their league games this season due to goals conceded after the 90th minute.

  • Spurs' survival: Tottenham remain one point above the relegation zone heading into next Sunday's clash with Nottingham Forest.

Disaster for Champions League hopes?

Jamie Carragher labeled the result an "absolute disaster" for Liverpool’s top-four ambitions, especially given the losses suffered by Chelsea and Aston Villa this weekend. For Spurs, the point is a vital psychological lift before they attempt to overturn a 5-2 Champions League deficit against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
