PUNE: Top seeded Suthirtha Mukherjee, second seeded Manika Batra and third seeded Pooja Sahasrabudhe registered contrasting wins to move Into the women’s second round at the 6th ‘Sudesh Shelar Memorial National Ranking Championship here on Sunday.
Top seeded Suthirtha Mukherjee survived an upset against unseeded Prabhu Mamta 4-3 (13/11,6/11,11/7,4/11,9/11,12/10,11/8) to move into the second round , second seeded Manika Batra outplayed Vanshika Bhargava 4-0 (11/9,11/6,11/4,12/10)
Top-seed and winner of South and East Zone titles had to really dig in to make a great escape and move into the second round of the women singles in the 11Sports National Ranking (West Zone) Table Tennis Championships at the Mhalunge-Balewadi Sports Complex here today.
In fact, the top-heavy half saw more such matches than the bottom half but all top eight seeds moved up without much hiccups.
