Napoli clinched the 2025-26 Italian Super Cup on Monday night, defeating Bologna 2-0 at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Brazilian winger David Neres was the standout performer, scoring in each half to secure the trophy for the reigning Serie A champions. The victory marks Napoli's third Super Cup title in club history, following their previous wins in 1990 and 2014.

The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Neres cut inside from the right and curled a 25-yard left-footed strike into the top corner, leaving Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia with no chance. Napoli doubled their lead early in the second half following a defensive lapse. Ravaglia attempted to play out from the back, but his risky pass to Jhon Lucumi was intercepted by Neres, who clinicaly chipped the ball over the keeper.

While Bologna had a chance to respond through Lewis Ferguson, his header was saved by Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, and Napoli comfortably managed the final stages of the game.

The match also served as a moment of vindication for Rasmus Højlund and Scott McTominay, both of whom arrived from Manchester United. Højlund, currently on loan with an obligation to buy for €44 million if Napoli qualifies for the Champions League, celebrated his first trophy with the club. He shared a photo with the silverware on Instagram, captioned: "What a great decision looks like."

Manager Antonio Conte took a pointed swipe at their former club during the post-match press conference, stating, “Højlund and McTominay were not playing at Manchester United, so there must be a reason given the work done by me and my staff. I believe our job is to expand a player’s knowledge and make him stronger.”

Antonio Conte further expressed pride in the performance but remained grounded regarding Napoli's long-term dominance. “We’ve made progress, but we’re not yet at the level we want to reach. It’ll take patience... We are not ready, nor are we even close, to dominating,” Conte noted.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis dedicated the win to the fans, remarking that the club has now won two trophies in a single year, drawing parallels to the Maradona era. Two-goal hero David Neres added, “I’m really happy with how the evening has gone... These wins help us keep moving forward with confidence.”

Napoli now returns to Serie A action, where they currently sit in third place, just two points behind leaders Inter Milan. Bologna, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat in a single-match final after previously winning the Coppa Italia twice. The Supercoppa, which was expanded in 2023 to a four-team format including league and cup runners-up, is contracted to remain in Saudi Arabia through 2029.
