Nina celebrates gold medal with new National Record

Pune: Nina Venkatesh came out with an impressive performance to clinch the gold medal in the 50 metre butterfly stroke event in the in the Sub Junior and Junior National Aquatics Championship at Balewadi Sports Complex, swimming pool on Thursday.

Nina also broke a 13 year national record finishing the event with the timings of 29.48 seconds.

Liyana Fathima Umar from Kerala was the second best to clinched the silver with the timings of 29.86 seconds. Assam girl Uttara Gogoi managed to claim bronze medal the timing of 30.27 seconds.

In the 200m freestyle boys event, crowd favourite Srihari Nataraj of Karnataka smashed a 10 year record by winning the 200m freestyle boys Group I race with the timings of one minute and 53.54 seconds. 

Srihari beat Neel Roy of SFI who won both 50m and 100m freestyle events. Neel clocked 1:54.72 which incidentally was a better meet record. Sanjay CJ won bronze with the timings of 1:56.13.

Earlier in the day, Vedika Amin showed her class to clinched the gold medal in the the girls 200m breaststroke event in the the Girls Group II category. 

Vedika swam a wonderful last 50 meters to edge past Kareena at the home stretch to set a New National record and grab yellow metal with the timings of of 2:43.97. Kareena won silver with 2:44.29.
