Team Nemesis looks to carry on legacy

Pune: After claiming the BAJA SAEINDIA 2019 championship for the fifth time, Team Nemesis Racing from College Of Engineering, Pune is gearing up to continue its fine run and make it six in a row at the 13th BAJA SAEINDIA, to be held at Pithampur near Indore from January 23 to 26.

The team from COEP has had an impressive run in the event, bagging awards in various categories apart from finishing on top from the past five years.

BAJA SAEINDIA is a platform for engineering students where they conceptualise, design, build, test and validate a single-seater four wheeled All-Terrain Vehicle which takes part in a series of events spread across a course of four days.

Throwing light on the preparations, Gauresh Gawas, captain of Team Nemesis Racing said “Considering the peak level of the competition, this year the preparation started after clearing the virtual event in the month of July. As per our deadlines, we have been through our design and manufacturing phase and currently we are finishing our testing phase.”

“To meet the deadlines, students work day and night in the workshop after college hours. Student prefers to work in the lab instead of spending time with family as the countdown to the event is just about to finish,” Gauresh informed.

When asked about the challenges faced, Gauresh said “In order to improve the vehicle performance and with a motto to build the world’s lightest and fastest Baja vehicle, we have spent a lot of time on innovation during our design phase. We have done research on cost and performance improving mechanism. We failed, we tried, we succeeded and came up with innovative ideas. The research team faced financial hurdles, but determination of students solved the problem as they spent for research related expenses from their own pockets.”

When quizzed about handling pressure, Gauresh said “After winning the championship five times, we are ready to do the double hat-trick. Everything is going according to the plan and the vehicle is ready to compete. We consider every challenge as an opportunity. Every team member is mentally prepared to handle any kind of pressure.”
