Former England and Manchester United star Wayne Rooney ended his playing career on Friday as he was confirmed as Derby County manager on a full-time basis.
Derby confirmed that the 35-year-old has agreed to a permanent deal until 2023 and will be focusing on his coaching role. Tributes poured in on social media from all quarters for the former Manchester United captain.
Rooney returned to England after a stint at DC United to last January join a Derby team that has been out of the Premier League since 2008.
Rooney is the highest goal scorer for Manchester United, having scored 253 goals between 2004 and 2017. In his 13 years career at Old Trafford, he won 16 trophies including five Premier League as well as Champions League, Europa League, and FA cup.
In his international career, the striker has scored 53 goals in 120 appearances for England
