Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the WTA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, cementing her status as the reigning force in women's tennis after holding the world number one ranking for the entire year. The 27-year-old becomes just the seventh woman in history to win the prestigious award in back-to-back years, receiving nearly 80% of the votes from international tennis media.
In addition to retaining her ranking, the WTA confirmed that Sabalenka set a new financial benchmark for the sport, banking a single-season prize money record of $15,008,519, i.e. 1,36,61,88,104.35 Indian rupees.
Her 2025 campaign was defined by remarkable consistency at the major tournaments. Sabalenka successfully defended her U.S. Open title and reached the finals at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, along with a semifinal run at Wimbledon.
She led the tour with 63 match victories and nine final appearances, capturing four titles overall including victories in Brisbane, Miami, and Madrid. Her dominance was such that she was the only player to spend every week of the 2025 season atop the PIF WTA Rankings.
American Amanda Anisimova was voted Most Improved Player of the Year, a category she won while also being the only other nominee for the top player award. Anisimova surged into the top 10 in July and finished the year ranked fourth, qualifying for the WTA Finals for the first time.
Her breakout season included reaching five finals and claiming her first career WTA 1000 titles in Doha and Beijing. She also made her maiden Grand Slam final appearances at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, falling to Sabalenka in the latter.
In other individual categories, Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic took home Comeback Player of the Year honors following her return to the tour after giving birth to her daughter in April 2024. Bencic captured titles at the Abu Dhabi Open, where she defeated Elena Rybakina, and the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, alongside a run to the Wimbledon semifinals.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko was named Newcomer of the Year. Mboko skyrocketed from outside the top 300 to a career-high ranking of 18, highlighted by a fairytale run to her first WTA 1000 title on home soil in Montreal.
The Doubles Team of the Year award went to Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend. The pair won their second Grand Slam title together at the Australian Open and reached the U.S. Open final. Their success propelled Townsend to the world number one doubles ranking, making her the first mother to achieve the feat.
Siniakova also secured a historic milestone, tying Martina Navratilova’s record with her fifth year-end number one finish. The announcement kicks off WTA Award Week, which celebrates standout performances across the tour.
