Shahid Afridi and controversies are long-term companions. The former Pakistani all-rounder famous for staging comebacks found himself amid a controversy again after a video of him made a buzz on social media where he made controversial remarks on India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kashmir.
The former Pakistan player criticised PM Narendra Modi for deploying an enormous army in Kashmir and also called him a bigger disease than COVID-19.
Afridi said, “I am in your beautiful village, I am very delighted. I was planning to visit you all for a long time. The world is currently infected by such a big disease. But the bigger disease is in Modi’s mind.”
“Modi deployed 7 lakh soldiers in Kashmir, same as the total strength of Pakistani forces,” he added while also stating that Kashmiris from India were also supporting the Army of Pakistan.
Reacting to Afridi’s latest remarks, both Harbhajan and Yuvraj have revealed that they regret supporting Afridi’s Foundation.
Yuvraj on his Twitter handle wrote, “Really disappointed by @SAfridiOfficial’s comments on our Hon’b PM @narendramodiji. As a responsible Indian who has played for the country, I will never accept such words. I made an appeal on your behest for the sake of humanity. But never again. Jai Hind.”
Harbhajan replied on tweet of Yuvraj Singh quoting that he would never be part of any charity work by Afridi. The off-spinner earlier told India Today, “This man (Afridi) is talking ill about our country. All I have to say is we have nothing to do with Shahid Afridi. He has no right to speak ill against our country and he should stay in his country and limits.”
Gautam Gambhir, Afridi's old nemesis, has been quite vocal against Pakistan on his Twitter handle wrote, “Pak has 7 lakh force backed by 20 Cr ppl says 16 yr old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 yrs. Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won’t get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?”
FORMER PAKISTAN SPINNER BLAMES AFRIDI FOR RUINING HIS CAREER
Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria, only the second Hindu to play for Pakistan also accused Shahid Afridi of treating him unfairly through his career and blamed him for a short limited-overs career.
Talking to PTI, Kaneria said, “He was always against me, when we were playing for the same department in domestic cricket or playing me in ODIs. If one person is always against you and you are in that situation, what other reason would think other than that (religion).”
