Amazon, the e-commerce giant, is set to eliminate nearly 16,000 roles in what is being described as its largest round of layoffs since October 2025. In an official blog post, the company said the cuts are part of further organisational changes. Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People and Experience, noted that the changes will affect “some of our teammates.”
“The reductions we are making today will impact approximately 16,000 roles across Amazon, and we’re again working hard to support everyone whose role is impacted. That starts with offering most US-based employees 90 days to look for a new role internally (timing will vary internationally based on local and country-level requirements),” Galetti wrote.
Galetti stated that, as mentioned in October, the company has been striving to streamline its structure by reducing layers, enhancing ownership, and eliminating bureaucracy. Galetti noted that while several teams completed their organizational changes in October, others have only just finished them now.
Amazon announced that employees who do not transition into new positions will be provided with support during the transition, which includes severance packages, outplacement assistance, and healthcare benefits. Despite the job cuts, Galetti mentioned that the company will persist in recruiting and investing in crucial strategic sectors, highlighting substantial growth prospects in the future.
Last week, reports said Amazon would lay off thousands of corporate employees. The company had 1.57 million workers globally as of Q3, and has already cut more than 27,000 jobs since 2022 as part of CEO Andy Jassy’s effort to reverse pandemic-era overhiring.
