Anthropic is going full throttle, making waves one after another with its rapid-fire AI launches. After triggering a selloff in SaaS stocks earlier this year with Claude Code, the Dario Amodei-led startup is now shaking up the software design space with its latest release, Claude Design.

Launched on April 17 by Anthropic, the Claude Design tool is already drawing attention for its potential impact on industry leaders like Adobe and Figma. According to Anthropic, Claude Design can generate polished visual assets, including interactive prototypes and pitch decks, using nothing more than a simple text prompt.
The launch rattled the design software industry, triggering a roughly 1.5% drop in Adobe’s share price and a 7% slide in Figma’s value on secondary markets. The sell-off came just days after Anthropic’s Chief Product Officer stepped down from Figma’s board on April 14.
Claude Design is included at no additional charge for current Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, but its use still counts against their subscription limits. According to Anthropic, users can choose to activate "extra usage" to keep using the service after those limits are reached. For Enterprise accounts, the feature is disabled by default and must be turned on by an administrator.
Claude Design, powered by Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.7 model, helps users create visual work by uploading files like DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, images, or even connecting a codebase. It generates an initial design draft that can be refined using edits, comments, or sliders, and applies a team’s design system for consistency.
"During onboarding, Claude builds a design system for your team by reading your codebase and design files," Anthropic explained in its blog post.
Anthropic highlighted several real-world use cases where teams are already leveraging Claude Design:
Realistic prototypes: Converts static mockups into interactive, shareable prototypes for user testing without needing code reviews.
Pitch decks: Helps founders turn rough ideas into complete, on-brand presentations in minutes.
Frontier design: Enables creation of advanced, code-powered prototypes with features like voice, video, 3D elements, and shaders.
Marketing collateral: Allows marketers to design landing pages, social media creatives, and campaign visuals, which can later be refined by designers.
Step 1: Open the Claude app or website.
Step 2: Create a new project and upload relevant context such as DOCX, PPTX, XLSX files, or a screenshot.
Step 3: Review the initial design output generated by Claude on the canvas.
Step 4: Refine and iterate using chat messages, inline comments, or direct edits.
Step 5: Once complete, export the final design to formats like Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML files.
Claude Design also supports a seamless handoff to Anthropic’s coding assistant, Claude Code, allowing users to continue building from the generated design.
