iPhone lovers, always eagerly awaiting the yearly iPhone launch, may be in for a major disappointment this year. A new report confirms that the iPhone 18 won’t be released until 2027, breaking Apple’s decade-long tradition of annual releases. While the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are still expected this fall, the standard iPhone 18 will be delayed, contradicting earlier rumors of a spring 2026 debut.

This year, Apple is shaking things up with a shift in its release strategy. Instead of launching the full iPhone lineup all at once, the company is rumored to split the releases into two separate windows. The plan? Prioritize the high-end models for a fall debut, while holding back the more budget-friendly iPhone models until 2027.

“For more than a decade, Apple has introduced its mainline ‌iPhone‌ lineup in the fall, with all core models launching simultaneously in September,” MacRumors reported. The iPhone 12 was officially released in October 2020, although it was unveiled in September, with the delay attributed to the Covid pandemic.

If accurate, the iPhone 18 could debut in spring 2027, possibly alongside the iPhone 18e and second-gen iPhone Air. This strategy mirrors the delayed iPhone 16e release. While it makes sense with rumors of a folding iPhone this fall, it risks frustrating customers who may not want to pay for a Pro model now or wait for the cheaper version later.

Naturally, the majority of users do not purchase a new iPhone annually, which implies that some individuals who intended to hold off until the fall of 2027 for their next phone might opt to buy the iPhone 18 sooner than they originally planned.
