Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a groundbreaking chapter in India’s digital journey with the introduction of Quantum 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), the nation’s first SIM-free, cable-free high-speed internet service. Debuting in Hyderabad, this innovative offering promises to bridge the connectivity gap for millions, delivering fibre-like speeds without the need for SIM cards or cumbersome wiring.

Quantum 5G FWA stands out as a 100% indigenous solution, designed and integrated by Indian vendors under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Unlike traditional broadband or mobile data services, BSNL’s new platform operates on a direct-to-device model. Customers simply plug in a special indoor router that wirelessly connects to BSNL’s 5G towers—no SIM, no optical fiber, and no technician visits required. Devices authenticate automatically, making setup effortless and user-friendly.

At the Hyderabad launch, test speeds reportedly reached as high as 980 Mbps, with ultra-low latency, making the service ideal for streaming, gaming, remote work, and more. While the initial rollout is in Hyderabad, BSNL plans to expand to Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Chandigarh, Gwalior, and other cities by September 2025.

While Quantum 5G FWA delivers impressive data speeds, it currently does not support voice calling, focusing solely on broadband connectivity—similar to offerings like Airtel Xstream Fiber and Jio AirFiber. This makes it ideal for users prioritizing data over traditional telephony.

BSNL’s Quantum 5G FWA is more than just a new product; it’s a statement of India’s technological self-reliance and innovation. “Quantum 5G FWA demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity. It is the first SIM-less, 100% home-grown customised 5G FWA for BSNL,” said A Robert J Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL/MTNL.
