Cloudflare Outage: A widespread service outage today disrupted several major platforms, including X, Canva, OpenAI, and Spotify. Reports from users began surfacing around 11 AM on Monday, with many experiencing difficulties accessing these services.
By 6 PM, Downdetector, a site that monitors outages, had recorded over 7,000 reports. The problem seems to be associated with Cloudflare, a vital infrastructure provider recognized for its content delivery network and distributed DNS services. Website owners frequently use Cloudflare to handle heavy traffic and protect against cyber threats such as DDoS attacks and comment spam.
The disturbance was so intense that it disabled Down Detector, the main resource users use to monitor such outages, as it also relies on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare has formally recognized the extensive disruption, announcing that it is examining a significant problem impacting many clients.
The company acknowledged that users are experiencing 'widespread 500 errors,' with major disruptions also affecting the Cloudflare Dashboard and API. "We are working to understand the full impact and mitigate this problem," the company noted, promising further updates soon.
The glitch disrupted several high-profile platforms, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, Perplexity, X, Spotify, and Gemini. After the site recovered, data showed a sharp spike in error reports across major services such as Spotify, Canva, X, and ChatGPT.
