In an era where smartphones store everything from payments to personal IDs, carrying a physical Aadhaar card can seem outdated—and even risky. To address this, the Unique Identification Authority of India introduced e-Aadhaar, a digitally signed version of the Aadhaar card that carries the same legal validity as its physical counterpart.
e-Aadhaar simplifies tasks such as opening a bank account, verifying your identity during travel, or handling government documents. If you haven't downloaded it yet, you'll be pleased to know that the process is fast, free, and relatively simple.
About e-Aadhaar?
e-Aadhaar is a protected PDF version of your Aadhaar card, containing all the details found on the physical card, such as your Aadhaar number, name, date of birth, address, photograph, and a QR code for quick verification. Digitally signed by UIDAI, it is recognized throughout India as legitimate proof of identity and address. Consider it your Aadhaar card without the risk of losing it.
The easiest and most reliable way to download your e-Aadhaar is through the official UIDAI website.
Step 1: Visit the official UIDAI website.
Step 2: Click on the “Download Aadhaar” option.
Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar number, Enrolment ID (EID), or Virtual ID (VID).
Step 4: Fill in the captcha code displayed on the screen.
Step 5: Click Send OTP to receive a one-time password on your registered mobile number.
Step 6: Enter the OTP for verification.
Step 7: Once verified, your e-Aadhaar PDF will be generated and ready to download.
For those who prefer using their phone, the mAadhaar app is a convenient option. The mAadhaar app lets you download your e-Aadhaar easily on your smartphone.
Install the mAadhaar app from Google Play or App Store.
Log in with your Aadhaar details.
Tap “Download Aadhaar” and verify with OTP.
Save the e-Aadhaar PDF on your device.
After downloading, don't worry if the file doesn't open immediately. e-Aadhaar PDFs are secured with a password. The password is straightforward: it consists of the first four letters of your name in uppercase, followed by your birth year. For instance, if your name is Nikhil and you were born in 1999, the password would be NIKH1999.
