Google has launched construction of a major AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking one of its biggest investments in India’s digital infrastructure. The project is being developed in partnership with AdaniConneX and Bharti Airtel’s Nxtra, and is expected to play a key role in advancing the country’s artificial intelligence and digital capabilities.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other senior leaders.
Officials highlighted that the project, along with upcoming subsea cable connectivity in Visakhapatnam, will strengthen India’s technological backbone and support its ambitions of becoming a global tech leader.
The AI hub will comprise several data center campuses and is included in Google’s proposed $15 billion investment in India for the period 2026 to 2030. It is anticipated to provide high-performance computing capabilities, help businesses build and expand AI-based solutions, and generate new economic opportunities.
Beyond infrastructure, the project is also expected to contribute to local job creation, skill development, and community initiatives, while promoting sustainable growth through the use of advanced and energy-efficient technologies.
