Google is set to establish its largest data center outside the United States in Visakhapatnam (popularly known as Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. The announcement was made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who emphasized the strategic significance of this project for both the state and the nation’s digital ambitions.
The Vizag data center forms the anchor project of the emerging "Data City" in Madhurawada, an ambitious technology cluster spanning 500 acres, developed by the Andhra Pradesh government as part of a plan to turn Vizag into a global IT and AI hub. Google has already acquired 80 acres near this site and signed a formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state to spearhead this development.
This data center will be Google’s biggest investment in infrastructure in India, serving as Asia’s largest after Taiwan and Singapore, with a projected investment of up to $4 billion. The campus will be based in Madhurawada, near Anandapuram and Bheemili, tightly connected to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport.
Thousands of direct and indirect jobs are expected, ranging from IT experts to construction and maintenance staff, alongside skill development programs for local youth. The facility will deploy advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud computing capabilities to drive innovation.
Google’s establishment of its largest data center outside the US marks a defining leap for Andhra Pradesh and India’s digital ecosystem. As construction progresses, Vizag is poised to emerge as a global hub for AI, digital infrastructure, and next-generation technology innovation, setting a blueprint for future investments across the country.
