Google has announced the launch of its AI-powered Virtual Apparel Try-On tool in India. First introduced in 2023, the feature allows shoppers to digitally “try on” clothes, providing a realistic preview of fit, style, and look. Launched ahead of the festive season, it aims to make online shopping more interactive, convenient, and confident.
Google announced that Indian online shoppers can now 'virtually try on billions of clothing items by simply uploading a photo.' The Virtual Apparel Try-On tool allows users to visualize how they would look in tops, bottoms, jackets, and even shoes by uploading their own photo.
Utilizing the company's bespoke AI model tailored for fashion, which comprehends both the human physique and the subtleties of garments, users can experience the Virtual Apparel Try On feature by clicking the 'try it on' button available on product listings on Google.
While browsing for items like shirts, pants, dresses, or shoes on Google, look for and tap the “try it on” icon on eligible product listings.
Upload a full-length photo of yourself. For the best visualization, Google suggests using a clear, well-lit, full-body image with fitted clothing.
Once the garment is digitally placed on your photo, you can save or share your new look with friends.
You can also directly purchase the item or explore similar styles based on the virtual try-on result.
Shoppers can also see how a clothing item will drape, stretch, cling, fold and form wrinkles and shadows on a wide range of models and help users find matching clothing pieces in different sizes, styles and colours.
You can experiment with various items, change colors, and compare styles, plus you have the option to save your favorites and share them with friends and family to show them how the outfits you prefer appear on you.
